The story behind Beacon Bay Retreat

Dor’s childhood summers were spent at Delta Lake Christian Campground, where her parents bought a small seasonal cottage. Her summers there were a large part of her spiritual formation as she spent many hours in the “Big Tabernacle” having God’s Word shape her tender heart. With that background in mind, and how God had influenced her heart and established meaningful friendships, we were led by Him to purchase a cottage on Beacon Ave. in 2021 without really knowing what He had in mind for our future there. But in obedience, we proceeded. Its 100 year lifespan had taken a toll, and therefore we hoped to renovate it and make it more comfortable, safe, and long-lasting. However, after further inspection and advice,we decided it really needed to be torn down. So we grabbed our sawzalls and piece by piece, we tore it down in December of 2022, As soon as that was over, the planning began and we continued on a journey of faith and trust that God had called us to this. There were many days, weeks, and months where we questioned, “Why?!”
As we got into the project we began to see His plan and provision unfold. We run a seasonal window cleaning and power washing business from April through November, which afforded us a winter of visualizing the build and plan.
This experience turned into an incredible opportunity for Roy to train our crew in carpentry, which he has an extensive background in, and passion for. They're wonderful young men, who are excellent at their trades, but knew nothing of building a home. It was a wonderful opportunity to share these skills with our young men. They learned the whole process from start to finish, and it’s been an amazing journey filled with faith, patience, and lots of growth for all!
We pray that God blesses you, and refreshes you and your family, as you rest in our cottage. It has been a labor of love getting it ready for you. Please read the attached prayer from Every Moment Holy as it really sums up our hearts for you during your stay. To God be the glory.
